The short version
Anglerly is a free fishing map for Central Texas lakes, run by one person, Neil Everette, in Texas. You can use the map without an account, and we don't sell your information or show ads.
If you sign in to save pins, we keep your Google name, email address and the pins you save. Your pins are private to you, and you can delete them anytime.
What we collect and why
When you just use the map
You don't need an account to look at the map. Like almost every website, our server keeps standard logs that can include your IP address, your browser type, the pages and files requested and the time. We use these to keep the site running and to deal with abuse.
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It gives us totals such as page views, which pages are popular, the referring site, browser and device type, and rough country. Cloudflare says this tool does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites.
When you sign in to save pins
Saving personal pins needs a sign-in with your Google account. Sign-in is handled by Supabase, our database provider. When you sign in, we receive and store:
- Your Google account name
- Your email address
- Your Google account ID
Then, for each pin you choose to save, we store the lake, the spot on the map, the category (my spot, catch, structure, hang-up, hazard or landmark), and any name and note you add. For a catch, we also store the species, length, lure and time caught if you enter them.
We use this only to show your pins back to you. Your pins are private. Other users can't see them, and there is no way to share them today. If sharing is ever added, it will be something you turn on yourself, and we'll update this page first.
Google will know you signed in to Anglerly, as with any "Sign in with Google" button. Google's own privacy policy covers what Google does with that.
Your location
The map can show where you are, and you can drop a pin where you're standing. This only happens when you tap the button, and your browser asks your permission first. Your location is used on your device to place you on the map. We don't track you, and we don't store your location unless you save it as a pin.
The weekly fishing report email
If you sign up for the weekly fishing report, we collect your email address. You'll get a confirmation email first, and you're only added once you click the link in it. Your address is held by Brevo, the service that sends our emails. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Brevo reports whether each email was opened and which links were clicked. We look at these totals to see whether the report is useful.
Cookies and browser storage
Anglerly doesn't set advertising or tracking cookies. If you sign in, your browser keeps your sign-in session in its local storage so you stay signed in. Signing out removes it.
Services your browser talks to
Some parts of the map load straight from other companies' servers. When they do, those companies can see your IP address and what was requested, just as any website can. They are:
- Esri (ArcGIS Online) for the background map and satellite images.
- The National Weather Service (weather.gov) for the forecast on the weather tab. It receives the lake's location, not yours.
- unpkg, a public code host, for a map stylesheet.
- Cloudflare for the visit counts described above.
- Supabase and Google, only if you sign in.
The "open in Google Maps" link on a place sends that place's coordinates to Google only if you tap it.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't show ads, and we don't share your information with advertisers.
- We don't track your location in the background.
- We don't let other users see your pins.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that run parts of Anglerly for us:
- DigitalOcean hosts the server for the website.
- Supabase stores sign-in accounts and saved pins in its cloud.
- Brevo holds the email list and sends the weekly report.
- Cloudflare provides the visit counts.
They handle your information to provide their service to us. We may also share information if the law requires it, such as in response to a valid court order, or to protect people's safety or the site from abuse.
How long we keep it
- Pins stay until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
- Your account (name, email, Google ID) stays until you ask us to delete it. Deleting your account deletes all of your pins with it.
- Your email list sign-up stays until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
- Server logs are kept only as long as needed to run and protect the site.
Your choices
- Use the map without signing in. Nothing about you is saved to an account.
- Delete any of your pins, anytime, from the map.
- Sign out whenever you like.
- Say no when your browser asks for your location. The map still works.
- Unsubscribe from the weekly report with the link at the bottom of any email.
- Ask us to delete your account and everything in it, or to tell you what we hold about you, by emailing [email protected].
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information. The site uses an encrypted connection, and the database only lets each signed-in person read and change their own pins. No system is perfectly secure, though, so we can't guarantee that your information will never be accessed without permission.
Children
Anglerly isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has signed up or given us their email, write to us and we'll delete it.
Where this applies
Anglerly is run from Texas, in the United States, and is meant for people fishing Central Texas lakes. Your information is handled in the United States. If you live somewhere else, your local laws may give you more rights over your data. Contact us and we'll do our best to help.
Changes to this page
If we change how Anglerly handles your information, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date at the top. If a change is significant, such as adding a way to share pins, we'll make it clear on the site before it takes effect.
