Built from catch posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, posted October 6–13, 2026, plus this week's scrape of the Lake Buchanan Fishing and Boating group and the weekend weather outlook. Reporting window: October 6–13, 2026.
Confidence note: Social activity was heaviest on Calaveras (redfish everywhere) and Granger (full-cooler crappie hauls) — where lots of people are posting, the bite is real and the signal is strongest. Buchanan filled in nicely this week thanks to the group's posts. Canyon is the thin one for our target species.
Lake Buchanan — stripers, hybrids, whites
Activity: Good — the group's posts filled in the picture this week. Schooling fish are up and moving, with both topwater action and bigger fish on the bottom.
Hot spots: Between Striper Island and Rocky Point (Saturday ~1:30 PM blowup of schoolies); Bird Island (schooling Friday); docks at sunset.
What's working: A Saturday report had schoolies blowing up between Striper Island and Rocky Point around 1:30, then jigging a War Eagle on the bottom produced a couple of 22+ inchers — the bigger fish are down deep. Trey Roberts (Oct 8) fished a dock at sunset: short stripers and hybrids blowing up on the surface nonstop for about 15 minutes, all on a fly rod. Clint Hartshorn got on a night boil where fish savagely attacked lipless cranks and blade baits — but the bite died after sundown even with fish still showing on sonar. Landon Roberts boated "one hog" Tuesday night that made the trip.
Conditions: Lake near pool (~909 ft). The Lake Buchanan/Inks Lake Chamber of Commerce posted its weekly report graphic (Oct 8) crediting Graham Vaandrager of Bosstriper Fishing Guide Service; details were in the image and unreadable.
Guide highlight: None this week — no guide posts surfaced in the window (Ken Milam Guide Service is the lake's long-running striper charter, but nothing from them this week).
Game plan: Go. Work the Striper Island/Rocky Point area; fish the sunset surface bite, then jig the bottom (War Eagle-type baits) for the bigger fish holding deep. Note the night-boil pattern: the bite can shut off at dark.
Canyon Lake — stripers, hybrids, whites
Activity: Thin for the target species. Bass and catfish are cooperating; stripers and whites are absent from this week's posts.
Hot spots: Boat Ramp 5 rocky shore (Oct 11: several catfish plus a big one, and a largemouth from the same rocks); early-morning smallmouth (Coy Wade, Oct 8).
What's working: Largemouth from rocky shorelines; Chris of Blue Collar Fishing (Oct 12) reports the fall transition starting with bait moving shallow — a Vision 110 jerkbait fished 10–12 ft over brush, water around 76°F. Barefoot Fishing Tours (Oct 7) notes Canyon and Dunlap have been fishing well recently.
Conditions: Water ~76°F; fall transition underway.
Guide highlight: Tyler Stanley of Game On Guide Service — his Oct 9 and Oct 11 posts show clients with largemouth bass from Canyon Lake, a steady run of successful trips.
Game plan: Go for largemouth (jerkbaits over brush, 10–12 ft); hold off if stripers or whites are the target — zero reports on them this week.
Lake Calaveras — red drum
Activity: Hot — the week's strongest signal. Redfish posts across Oct 6–11 from bank, kayak, and boat anglers. When this many people are posting, the bite is real.
Hot spots: Gravel shorelines at first and last light; kayaks working open water near shore; boat trips under sunny skies.
What's working: Reds biting on lures from the bank — Osvaldo Rodriguez landed a big one at sunset Oct 6 ("the reds are coming out, with lures, from the shore"). John Earnhardt II took a ~30-inch red off the bank the morning of Oct 7 with his partner Emma Miller. Kayak angler Robert Rodriguez (Oct 10) caught his at sunrise on a silver-and-green hard-body swimbait; DPesk210 landed a personal-best ~30-inch kayak red on a Rat-L-Trap-style lipless crankbait and released it. Brett Hodges and the Task Force Outdoors crew hauled big reds from a boat Oct 11; Robert Gomez (Oct 11) posted a bank-caught red with rods planted in the ground — the soak-a-bait crowd is catching too.
Conditions: Calm, sunny days; clear, cool mornings.
Guide highlight: Matt Gomez of The Reelest Fishing — his Oct 6 guided trip put clients on 2 reds at 19 inches plus a keeper red, along with 16 catfish. A full table and happy clients.
Game plan: Go — the week's best bet. Fish the bank at sunrise or sunset with lures, or soak bait on the bottom.
Granger Lake — whites, crappie, catfish
Activity: The crappie bite is on — nearly every post is full-cooler proof.
Hot spots: Submerged timber; sonar showing fish stacked near bottom around 22 ft.
What's working: Guide Bob Jenkins of Bob's Tail Guide Service (Oct 7) fished with Captain Wes Fishing Expeditions and young Jettson — a "hoe-down" that put 54 crappie in the boat over submerged timber. Shane Witcher (Oct 9) made a quick sundown run and "boated a mess" of crappie, his sonar showing fish at 22.5 ft with surface temps near 84°F. Slab City Jigs Outdoors (Oct 9) posted another big Granger crappie haul. Minnows and small jigs over timber and brush are the ticket.
Conditions: Surface temps in the low-to-mid 80s, cooling.
Guide highlight: Bob Jenkins of Bob's Tail Guide Service — 54 crappie over submerged timber on Oct 7, fishing with Captain Wes Fishing Expeditions and young Jettson. Every fish headed for the cooker.
Game plan: Go — crappie over timber is the week's surest thing.
Lake Travis — stripers, whites, largemouth
Activity: Mixed. Largemouth steady; stripers and white bass absent from this week's posts.
Hot spots: Hippie Hollow (kayak, day and night); shallow brush.
What's working: Largemouth all day — Damon Ross (Oct 6) fished with Roberto Torres Jr. and reported solid fish; Tim Anderson posted multiple day-and-night largemouth from Hippie Hollow, all catch-and-release; Solo Summit Fly Co. landed a big one on a fly rod; a Monday post showed a boy and his dad with six largemouth. Travis Gillaspie (Oct 12) posted a beast of a catfish.
Conditions: Not stated in this week's posts.
Guide highlight: None this week — no guide posts surfaced for Travis.
Game plan: Go for largemouth around shallow brush; hold off for stripers. Note: the "One Bite" swimbait-only bass tournament runs Friday 2–7 PM at the Mansfield Dam ramp ($80/angler, 5-fish limit) — expect boat traffic at the dam Friday afternoon.
Overall summary
Best bets: Calaveras reds (hottest), Granger crappie (surest), Travis largemouth (steady). Buchanan is a go this week — the Striper Island/Rocky Point schoolies plus the War Eagle jig bite on bigger fish is the best Buchanan signal in weeks. Canyon: go for largemouth, hold off for stripers/whites.
Weekend weather (Central Texas): A cold front pushes through Thursday night (late showers, 50%). Friday: AM clouds/PM sun, high 72, breezy north wind ~19 mph. Saturday: partly cloudy, high 71, morning low near 48, lighter north winds, zero rain — the pick of the weekend. Sunday: mostly sunny, high 75, light wind. Friday's front may make fish finicky; Saturday's cool, stable morning is the week's best window. No storms in the forecast.
